PC/104 MULTIFUNCTION I/O EIO2-PC/104

The EIO2-PC/104 is a multifunction I/O board with two PC/AT 16C550 ACE- compatible serial ports and one enhanced parallel port (LPT port) for PC/104 expandable embedded systems. The serial ports are independent to each other jumper selectable for RS232C, RS422 or RS485 operation. The EIO2 works with a single 5 volt power supply. There are independent interrupt request lines for each serial channel and for the LPT port and the support for PC/104 interrupt sharing.

EIO2-PC/104

The EIO2-PC/104 is build around the 16C552 Dual UART (DUART) with parallel port. For more information about this device please download or view the file 16c552ds.pdf (466.870 bytes). The board offers connectors for 16-bit PC/104 (J1/J2), serial port COM.A (RS232C, RS422 or RS485 pinout), serial port COM.B (RS232C, RS422 or RS485 pinout) and the parallel port LPT. The EIO2 is using a on-board 1.8432 MHz clock source for the 16C552 DUART serial port baud rate generator.

EIO2-PC/104

The base address for COM.A and COM.B is jumper selectable to COM1, COM2, COM3 or COM4. There is also a "disable" jumper position for each port. The interrupt request (IRQ) for the serial channels and for the parallel port is jumper selectable on the 16-bit PC/104 bus interrupts IRQ2, IRQ3, IRQ4, IRQ5, IRQ6, IRQ7, IRQ10, IRQ11, IRQ12, IRQ14 or IRQ15. The operation mode of the serial ports (RS232C, RS422 or RS485 mode) are setup by a mode select jumper.

EIO2 Block Diagram

The serial ports of the EIO2 16C552 DUART are the enhanced dual channel version of the popular PC/AT standard 16C550 asynchronous communications element (ACE). There are independent control of transmit, receive, line status, and data set interrupts on each channel. Each serial channel offers a 16-byte FIFO to reduce CPU interrupts and works with up to 115 kbps. In addition to the dual communications interface capabilities, the 16C552 provides the EIO2 with a fully bidirectional parallel printer port (LPT port).
