PC/104 CAN MULTIFUNCTION I/O CIO6-PC/104
The CIO6-PC/104 is a multifunction I/O board for CAN field bus applications. The CIO6 consists of three major functions: the CAN controller for BASIC and FULL CAN messages with 11- or 29- bit identifier and ISO/DIS CAN field bus interface, the VGA flat panel interface for monochrome LCD and EL displays, and a 24-bit digital I/O port with TTL levels. Mounted in a stackable 8/16- bit PC/104 module this CAN multifunction I/O is a low cost base for CAN data displays and control panels in automated industrial equipment and medical instrumentation applications.

The CAN field bus interface of the CIO6-PC/104 board is based upon the Intel BASIC/FULL CAN controller 82527 chip. The 82527 support the standard and extended message frames in CAN specification 2.0 part B. It has the capability to transmit, receive, and perform message filtering on extended message frames with a 29- bit message identifier. Due to the backward compatible nature of CAN specification 2.0, the 82527 also fully supports the standard message frames in CAN specification 2.0 part A.

The 82527 CAN controller is I/O port mapped. The I/O base address is jumper selectable with jumper JP1 to 200h, 220h, 280h, 2A0h, 300h, 320h, 380h, or 3A0h. The 82527 CAN controller needs one IRQ on the PC/104 bus. The interrupt request output of the 82527 is jumper selectable with jumper JP2 to the PC/104 bus IRQ5, IRQ6, IRQ7, IRQ10, IRQ11, or IRQ12 interrupt request signals (see also CIO6 block diagram).

The CIO6 offers connectors for 8-bit (J1) or 16-bit PC/104 (J1/J2), CAN ISO/DIS field bus interface, 24- bit digital I/O (50- pin connector, Opto- 22 compatible, and for VGA LCD or EL flat panel displays.
