CP/386LN PCMCIA SUPPORT
The CP/386LN BIOS supports direct PCMCIA devices. This feature enables an embedded computer to use PCMCIA memory cards and PCMCIA hard disk drives. For using the CP/386LN BIOS PCMCIA support, it is necessary to install the SSV PD3- PC/104 PCMCIA interface. This high performance PCMCIA Card Drive offers a single PCMCIA socket with ejector. The PD3 reads and writes PCMCIA SRAM, FLASH, ATA FLASH (i. e. SanDisk ATA FLASH cards) and hard disk drives in memory- mapped- mode. The CP/386LN support also offer a mode, for booting up the CP/386LN over the SSV PD3 from a PCMCIA memory card or hard disk.

The PD3 PCMCIA interfaces includes a special jumper JP4. Please install this jumper (PCMCIA ENABLE) for using the PD3 PCMCIA interface together with the CP/386LN BIOS support for the PD3. With jumper JP4 installed, the PD3 is available as a bootable DOS drive A: for the CP/386LN. Without this jumper, the CP/386LN BIOS does not detect the SSV PD3 PCMCIA interface. For booting up the CP/386LN over the PD3, it is also necessary to select the boot sequence "A:/C:" in the CP/386LN BIOS setup. The drive C: is the CP/386LN bootable FLASH solid state disk (SSD). This drive C: is always present. The DOS drive A: is a removeable drive for the CP/386LN if the user removes the PCMCIA device from the PD3. The CP/386LN checks in the Power On Self Test (POST) routines the PD3 jumper JP4. If the POST detects the PD3 with JP4 installed, the POST messages are:

TESTING INTERVAL TIMER............. PASS
TESTING INTERRUPT CONTROLLER....... PASS
TESTING DMA CONTROLLER............. PASS
TESTING KEYBOARD CONTROLLER........ PASS
TESTING SYSTEM MEMORY..........640K PASS
TESTING EXTENDED MEMORY.......7168K PASS
TESTING PCMCIA INTERFACE........... PASS
TESTING ETHERNET BOOT PROM......... OFF
TESTING HARD DISK CONTROLLER....... OFF
TESTING REAL TIME CLOCK............ PASS
TESTING SERIAL PORT COM1........... PASS
TESTING SERIAL PORT COM2........... PASS

You can also use the PD3 PCMCIA interface together with the CP/386LN without the CP/386LN BIOS support for the PD3. In this case, please remove the jumper JP4 (PCMCIA DISABLE). In this operating mode, you need the DOS device driver SSVPD3.SYS for using the PD3 as a DOS drive. SSVPD3.SYS is an installable device driver which is supplied with the PD3 SUPPORT DISK and can be used with Microsoft MS-DOS and Windows operating systems. It supports also PCMCIA SRAM, FLASH, ATA FLASH, and PCMCIA hard disk drives. In the PCMCIA DISABLE mode the CP/386LN POST messages are:

TESTING INTERVAL TIMER............. PASS
TESTING INTERRUPT CONTROLLER....... PASS
TESTING DMA CONTROLLER............. PASS
TESTING KEYBOARD CONTROLLER........ PASS
TESTING SYSTEM MEMORY..........640K PASS
TESTING EXTENDED MEMORY.......7168K PASS
TESTING PCMCIA INTERFACE........... OFF
TESTING ETHERNET BOOT PROM......... OFF
TESTING HARD DISK CONTROLLER....... OFF
TESTING REAL TIME CLOCK............ PASS
TESTING SERIAL PORT COM1........... PASS
TESTING SERIAL PORT COM2........... PASS
Please notice: The location of the PD3 jumper JP4 is different from PD3 hardware version 1.x to hardware version 2.x. For the exact location of jumper JP4, please use the PD3 hardware reference manual or the PD3 OLS1 ONLINE SUPPORT DISK.
